Boys Junior Varsity Soccer vs. New Bedford HS School

Game Date
Sep 15, 2015
Score
WARRIORS: 2
NEW BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL: 1

Best team effort of the season, by far.  Warriors played a faster, more talented New Bedford team but with collective discipline, team communication, and individual brilliance, prevailed.  Warriors were on the back foot the first 15 minutes of the game, but learned fast that only balls played quickly though the midfield were going to have a chance of success. Despite the steep learning curve, Warriors lost possession off of a goal kick and had the ball served against them into the box for a nice NB finish which put the home team in the hole 0-1 at the half.   Warriors regrouped at half, changed formation and philosophy, and came out second half hungry to change the dynamic. They did. After closing off the midfield to NB, warriors began to spray the sidelines and attacking third with dangerous balls, one of which Avery Santoro drove forward in clinical fashion toward goal and finished in the side netting to tie the score. Eight minutes later, a rebound off a corner allowed Curtis Moore to put the ball far post to the waiting head of Jake Pearl who buried the winning goal in the back of the net.

There are many players who share credit for the victory. I will mention the sophomore play downs Ryan Pisch, Daiver Perez, and Justin King as the four defenders without whom today's result would not have been possible. Cormack Parker played with inspiration and resoIve to retake control of the midfield and create the opportunities that would eventually win the game. I  will also mention four players who stepped up to help out the varsity ball control situation out of their desire to put team before self: Tim Palhiero, James Sandison, Ben Garside, and Matt Cahill.  Also want to mention Nabil Kurtoglu as Man off the Bench today.  Nabil had a terrible practice Monday and rebounded to do everything right in terms of hustle, courage, and aggressive play today.
