The Boys XC team placed 4th in the State Eastern Divisional Championships to earn a spot at All States!
Great racing, more to come
The Nauset boys cross country team did something at the state divisional meet last weekend that has never been done before at Nauset, they qualified for all states!
Brian Brooks, Jake Pearl, Finn Riley, Jake Eldridge, Jake Whitfield Aidan Dill, Max Christopher and Tyler Hutchinson trained all last week with the intent to race their best and have a chance at making it to All-States. Their training and mindset resulted in some great performances with gutsy efforts to beat as many competitors to get the team in.
Brian Brooks and Jake pearl charged ahead to be in the front pack, leading the race and allowing the rest of the Nauset runners to position themselves. Brian continued to power through, running an incredible race, placing third (missing 2nd by one second) and starting the low score. Not far behind was Jake Pearl, really showing his strength, coming in eighth and helping keep the team score low. Both Brian and Jake medaled as individuals, while paving the way for Nauset qualifying.
Freshman Finn Riley was amazing, he was neither afraid of the competition or the challenge facing the team. He ran fearlessly and placed 52nd. Jake Eldridge also gave an incredible performance, fighting off every runner trying to pass him, while at the same time beating anyone who is close to him. The result was another important place (56th) to add to the teams low score.
Jake Whitfield ran a brave race to be the fifth and final scorer that resulted in Nauset fourth place finish and move on to this weekend is All-states Race! Right behind him was Aidan Dill (97th) and Max Christopher (105th) to ensure great six and seventh runner positions in case of a tie.
Tyler Hutchinson came as an integral part of the team. He knew he probably wouldn’t race since only seven are allowed but he still wanted to warm up with the team and cheer on the team he had been training with, and race if anyone got sick or hurt before the start.
I am incredibly proud of the boys cross country team, their strength both mentally and physically during the season and in the qualifying race. They really deserve to be at All-states and they will be representing the whole team (who put together an awesome season) when they race this Saturday.
Good luck guys!
Go Nauset!
