Sr. captain Madaket Nobili posted an 18:43 today smashing her own course record (previously 19:00) while also leading her team to an ACL league title. The Nauset girls beat Sandwich HS 17-38 on a perfect day for running. Temps were in the 50's and the skies were blue. Coach McCully's magical pink hat was on hand as well, but today luck was not needed. The Nauset GXC brought athleticism, strength and determination to the start line. They had a goal to set personal best times and to clinch the ACL title. Collectively, they conquered it!
Sr. captain Tara Ellard crossed the line in 2nd place, 19:12, dropping her time by over :30 seconds. Ellard has been running fast all season and has only lost to team mate Madaket Nobili. Nobili and Ellard are clearly the fastest 2 female runners in the ACL and proved it once again today. The surprise of the day, however, was freshman Rachel Pranga who grabbed 3rd place, beating top Sandwich runner, Emma Eastman, by :8 seconds. Pranga clocked a 19:34, which was close to :45 seconds faster than her previous mark. Placing 5th and 6th respectively was Izzy Nobili, 19:48 and Ella Kelly, 19:56. Both freshman girls dropped one minute off their 5k time. Sandwich took 7-12th place while Nauset's Rebekah Pranga, took 13th clocking a PB time of 22:07. Caroline Sullivan was Nauset's 7th runner in, placing 17th overall and posting yet another PB time, 22:33.
The GXC team recorded 14 best times today, a great way to celebrate the last regular season meet and a super send off for the seniors that raced for the last time on their 3.1 mile course.
Nauset will compete at the Twilight Invitational on Saturday Oct. 21 and then gear up for the League champs on Oct. 28th. Congrats to the Nauset GXC team.
