It was a fitting finale for Abby Farrell as she crushed the school record en route to a first place overall finish in today's "last home" meet of the season. Her previous school record mark of 19:00 is long gone as the new record of 18:28 gets written down in the record books thanks to the help of Sandwich's top runner Emma Eastman who pushed Farrell for the entire 3.05 mile course. Only :5 seconds separated the two speedsters.
The Cape and Islands League Title was on the line today as both teams went into the meet undefeated. Nauset, now 8-0, got great performances from top to bottom today. Excitement was in the air as four seniors were honored: Abby Farrell, Leah Hoopes, Rebekah Pranga and Maddie Kelly. Their teammates along with coach McCully presented the girls with flowers and gifts prior to the start. It set the stage for fast running. Ella Kelly and Izzy Nobili pushed each other to stay in the front pack grabbing 3rd and 4th respectively while each set personal best times, 19:36 and 19:42. Makayla Hutchinson (21:24) was a big surprise today coming in as Nauset's #4 runner- (6th overall) providing key points to cement the victory. Close behind and running well was Rebekah Pranga in 8th at 21:46. Also setting personal best times today were: Maddie Kelly 12th at 23:23, Leah Hoopes 14th at 23:31 and Katie "K-Dog" Farrell 18th at 25:16.
Next up for the girls: Twilight Invitational Saturday Oct. 19th at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds.
Congratulations to the little ladies from Nauset. Impressive performances!!! Everyone dug deep today, thanks captains Abby and Izzy for being great role models.
