The Nauset Boys swim team was led by Jr tri captain Emmett Draz at the Cape Cod Classic Swim meet held in Nantucket Sat. Jan 5th. Draz was named Diver of the meet- he placed first overall in the diving event with one of his career best performances- scoring 181.35 pts and surpassing the state sectional standard by 8 pts! He also captured first place in the 100 yd backstroke and was part of two stellar relay performances: the 200 medley relay (4th place) and the 400 free relay (3rd).

The team as a whole did outstanding with personal best times in every event. Despite being without 2 of the top sprinters in the normal line-up, the team rallied and worked together. Before going in to the last event of the afternoon, Nauset was tied with Barnstable 63-63 and was was only 2 pts down from Sandwich (65)

Jake Avery had the meet of his life posting pb's in both individual events and all relay splits. He was 4th in the IM and 2nd in the breaststroke. Kevin Johnson, John McLoughlin, Rob Whitaker, Seth Nowack and Hannu Pechukas all secured top 6 performances in their individual swims while posting season best times in the process. Pechukas broke the one minute mark in his 100 free, while Ben Davies crushed his previous mark in the 500 free and swam to a fourth placed finish, moving up from his 7th seed position. Nick Smith grabbed 3rd in the 500 and also had a seasons best time.

Sam Spiegal swam to a pb in the 100 breastroke,(1:21) sneaking into 6th place and securing another point for the team. And finally congrats to Joe Vitale who broke the :30 sec mark in his 50 free leg of the relay.
