The Nauset Girls overcame an early disqualification to post a 51-41 win over Coyle & Cassidy High School at the Taunton Boys & Girls Club.
With the meet only being held in 4 lanes and limiting Nauset's advantage in depth, the Nauset girls had to work hard to overcome an early loss of points in the 200 Medley Relay. A disqualification created a 7 point swing early causing Nauset to be down 6-3 instead of leading 7-3 after the first event. The girls worked hard and overcame the deficit winning 7 of the final 8 events.
Individual winners for Nauset on the day were Lauren Schiffenhaus in the 50 Freestyle in 29.34, Katie Walters in the 100 Butterfly in 1:10.27, Hannah Johnson in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.58, Molly Rudman in the 100 Backstroke in 1:10.62, and Brooke Linnell in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:22.63.
Nauset also added wins in the 200 Freestyle Relay (Walters, Linnell, Schiffenhaus, and Johnson) in 1:56.87 and the 400 Freestyle Relay (Schiffenhaus, Hannah Muse, Helen Gainey, and Rudman) in 4:26.72.
Charlotte Whitaker added a second behind Schiffenhaus in the 50 Free turning the score in Nauset's favor. Second/Third Places finishes from Helen Gainey and Isabella Granlund in the 200 Free, Gabby Dadoly and Rae Gainey in the 200 Individual Medley, and Hannah Muse and Kate Gainey in the 500 Freestyle as well as third place finishes from Sarah Foley in the 100 Backstroke and Caroline Donoghue in the 100 Breaststroke meant that the only event Nauset was out scored in was the Medley Relay.
The Nauset Girls are now 2-0 in the Bay Colony Conference heading into the Cape Cod Classic this Saturday at Sandwich High School.
