Nauset JV Baseball can't capture shootout, loses 16-9 to Sandwich High School

Six hits weren't enough for Nauset JV Baseball as it lost a shootout, 16-9 in seven innings, to Sandwich High School on Saturday.

Sherman Merrill boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 2-2 day at the plate to pace Nauset JV Baseball. He singled in the fourth and sixth innings.

17, 20, 11 and 19 helped lead Sandwich High School. They combined for eight hits and 10 RBIs.

Sam Palmer was charged with the loss. He allowed seven runs in one inning, walked two and struck out two.

The top of the first saw Nauset JV Baseball take an early lead, 2-0. A triple byHarrison Field, scoring Conner Canesi started the inning off. Nauset JV Baseball then tacked on more runs when Field scored on a wild pitch.

Sandwich High School stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first, scoring seven runs on an error, two singles, and a three-run triple by 19.

Three runs in the top of the third helped Nauset JV Baseball close its deficit to 9-5. A steal of home by Merrill, an error, and a groundout by Mike Dohertygave Nauset JV Baseball life. Nineteen ended the inning by getting JP Dysartto strike out.

A three-run fourth inning helped bring Nauset JV Baseball within one. An RBI single by Merrill, a steal of home by Jesse Frazier, and a walk by Palmer fueled Nauset JV Baseball's comeback. Finally, 19 got Doherty to to end the threat.

Sandwich High School added six more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Seventeen singled, bringing home 23 and 12 to start the inning.

After pushing across one run in the top of the seventh, Nauset JV Baseball faced just a 16-9 deficit. An error set off Nauset JV Baseball rally. Twelve got the last out, as Nauset JV Baseball's Owen Farrell flew out.
