Nauset 73 Falmouth 62
Nauset staged a thrilling come from behind victory at Falmouth on Tuesday.
Falmouth’s outstanding field events caused troubles for the Warrior’s. The home team won 5 of the 6 events, opening a twenty point lead. But once on the track, Nauset found their stride winning 6 of the 8 events to enter the relays with a one point lead. Having to win one of the two relays to win the meet, the 4X100M relay team of Shavar Champagne, Owen Wilcox, Richard Ramsay and Dyllon McNeill ran a season best 45.1 to edge Falmouth. Then the 4X400M team of Bobby Freeman, Chris Pombo, Nolan Ellard and Jacob Pearl won with a season best of 3:50.7.
Nauset’s only field event winner was Matt Cahill who opened his season with a stellar 6’2” jump. Freeman (HJ-5’6”), Wilcox (TJ-36’11”) and Will Van Vleck (SP- PR - 40’9”) added second place finishes.
Cahill and Brian Brooks were Nauset’s only double winners. Cahill added to his high jump victory with a first in the 110M hurdles (PR-16.2). Brooks dominated at distance winning both the 2 mile and mile (4:36).
Other winners were Nolan Ellard (800M-2:11), Jacob Pearl (400M-54.4) and Van Vleck (400MH - 66).
Second place finishes went to Christian Augut in the 400M, Wilcox in the 200M, McNeill in the 100M and Tyreese Ferguson in the 110M hurdles.
In a meet where every point was essential Nauset got third place finishes from Jake Whitfield in both the 2 mile and 800M. Ramsay (200M) and Van Vleck (110M hurdles) also grabbed thirds.
Nauset next competes in the MSTCA Division 3 Relays at North Reading on Sunday.
