ACL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Nauset won six events and placed second in another six events on their way to a runner-up performance in the ACL Track and Field Championships.

Matt Cahill won both the high jump (5’11”) and 110M hurdles (15.81) while anchoring the winning 4X400 relay. In the hurdles he edged teammate and last year’s champion Tyreese Ferguson, both runners more than three seconds ahead of the rest of the competition.

In the “all-seniors” relay he was joined by Jacob Pearl, Tabin Brown and Bobby Freeman. Their time of 3:36.35 was the second best in Nauset history, just off the school record this team set earlier in the year.

Pearl led off the relay with a 52.1 split. He had already won the 800 meter (2:01.04) earlier in the meet. Brown ran the second leg after having placed second in the open 400 with a PR of 51.92. Freeman ran third. He had previously won the triple jump with a PR of 39’10” and placed 4th in the high jump at 5’8”.

The Warrior’s lone underclassman winner was Chris Pombo in the 400M Hurdles at 1:03.59. Junior Kieran Norton placed 3rd in the event (1:06.80).

Nauset juniors placed 2nd in both sprints. Shavar Champagnie was edged in the 100M 11.63 to 11.74, while Christian Augat ran 2427 in the finals after a PR 23.98 in the trials. Augat was also second in the triple jump with a PR 39’3”.

Sophomore Aidan Handville scored big in two events. He was runner up in discus (114’7”) and third in javelin (128’3”).

In the 4X800M relay the team of Aidan Dill, Finn Riley, Kieran Norton and Arthur O’Neil placed 2nd in 9:36.07.

Sophomore Richard Ramsay was 3rd in the long jump at 19’11” and anchored the third place 4X100M. Ramsay was joined on that team by Ferguson, Champagnie and Augat.

The Warriors placed 6th in both distance races -  Finn Riley (10:55.84- 2 mile) and Noah Dziedzina.

In what was a closely contested meet until the end Nauset scored 146 Points while Marshfield pulled away with 169.5.

This was the final ACL Championship as Marshfield will be changing leagues and others will be joining with the remaining four to create a new Cape Cod based league. During the dual meet season Nauset finished with a 5-2 record. This year they were led with a strong senior group that has not lost to a Cape Cod team the last three years. Although graduating many of the team’s top scorers the ACL Championship showed many underclassmen capable of taking over leadership roles next year.

Nauset next competes at the MIAA Division 3 Championships at Merrimack College on Sunday, May 26th.
