The Nauset girls track team has shown steady improvement all season. The results of the ACL Championship now confirm this. The Warriors turned in an impressive showing on the track coupled with a few strong field event performances to capture the ACL Championship in convincing fashion. Nauset never trailed throughout the meet.
Nauset started by winning the first two events of the day. Senior captain Tara Ellard won the two mile (11:46.04) and Abigale Farrell was 4th (12:25.33). Then Nauset took three of the top six places in the 400M hurdles. Freshmen Sophie Christopher (1:10.55) and Abigail Qvarnstrom (1:14.55) placed 1-2 with senior Latoya Brown placing 4th in a lifetime PR of 1:15.19. A strong headwind on the final straightaway compromised times throughout the day so very few times were personal bests.
Other winners on the track were Izzy Nobili (800M-2:21.80), Kara Moore (400M-1:01.40) and Hannah Gale (100MH-17.35). Nauset also placed another runner in each of those events. Lillian Manganaro (100MH-18.07) and Rebecca Pranga (400M-1:03.28) grabbed thirds and Hannah Muse (800-2:35.24) placed 6th.
Senior Captain Alena O’Conner was third in the 100M dash (13.84) while in the mile Rachel Pranga (5:27.42) and Madaket Nobili (5:29.03) placed 3-4.
Running provided a healthy cushion point-wise but Dennis-Yarmouth’s outstanding field events; especially throwing, made every Nauset point count. During the dual meet season Nauset fell to league champion D-Y by two points despite a clear running superiority.
This time Nauset garnered enough points off the track to get the job done.
400M hurdle winner Sophie Christopher had a lifetime PR (31’7”) in the triple jump to get 2nd place while Rebecca Pranga (30’8”) gained 4th. 400M dash winner Kara Moore tied for 2nd place in the high jump at 4’8”. In the long jump Lillian Manganaro (2nd-14’3”) and Polly Watson (4th-13’10”) added points.
The final points came in throws where Amy Poyant placed in both javelin (5th-72’11”) and
discus (6th-74’9”).
With the impending thunderstorm the relays were cancelled but would not have affected the outcome. Nauset had all of their best runners available for relays and was predicted to either win or score high in all three events.
