Updated on 06/10/2022

Nauset Breaks Three School Records

Nauset broke three school records and had three placements at the MIAA Division IV Championship.

Brian Brooks broke his own school record in the two mile, running 9:52.86 and placing fifth. Brooks entered the meet seeded 10th but negative split the race to end up on the podium. He will have to wait until the Division 1 Championship on Sunday Sunday to find out if he earns a wild card spot in the state finals.

Nauset also placed 5th in the girls’ two mile as Madaket Nobili ran a PR  11:33.22. Nobili relied on her strong finishing kick over the last 400M to move from the 8th to the 5th spot.

Tara Ellard had a PR in the mile, running  5:28.93 and placing 7th. Ellard entered the meet seeded 14th. This is Ellard’s first season running distance and has shown steady progress throughout the season.

Nobili and Ellard joined with Neilly Rose and Alena O’Connor  in the 4X400M to take two seconds off the school record, running 4:26.10. They entered the meet seeded 24th but won their heat and ended up 11th overall.

Nauset’s final school record came in the 4X200M. The team of Ellie Hartmann, Mackenzie Meads, Sabrina Fogarty and Caroline Sullivan took three seconds off the record they set at the ACL Championship. Entering the meet seeded 21st, their time of 1:52.45 was good for 10th place, finishing just .34 off of the medal stand.

BOYS

Nauset 21 – Marshfield 79

Nauset boys opened the meet with a loss against ACL league power Marshfield.  It was a good showing for a team in which 80% of the members were running in their first-ever indoor meet. Brian Brooks (2 mile), Colin Nobili (5’3”-high jump) and Xavian Reynolds (10.49-55M Hurdles) were all event winners. All three are sophomores.

Joining Nobili in the high jump was freshman Robert Freeman who finished in a tie for second place at 5’1”

Finishing out the scoring, in sprints Mente Kerse-McMillin placed third in the 300M (41:31).

Although not scoring, a number of athletes posted strong opening performances that bode well for the remainder of the season. Devin Cannistraro (Jr-55M-7.30) and Tate Seidewand (Fr-55M-7.32) showed they will run with the top sprinters in the league. Jacob Pearl (Fr-Mile-5:03) and Jacob Whitfield (So-Mile-5:14) provide some of the team depth in distance.

Freshman Will Van Vleck competed in three events, posting the teams best performances in the shot put and 4X400M relay.
