Boys Junior Varsity Soccer vs. Monomoy Regional High School
9.0 years ago | Sean Mulholland
Warriors Win: 7 - 0
Warriors finished off a fine season in fine fashion this evening with ten different players getting directly involved in the scoring. Jake and Tesfu scored by forcing perfect crosses that the Monomoy defenders deflected into their own goal. Avery held up the ball brilliantly on the left side and then delivered a well timed cross to Ansel who finished through multiple legs to the back of the net. Not to be outdone by his brother, Alex Drown took a perfectly played diagonal ball from Robby Wright and went 1 v 1 with the keeper and prevailed.  Early in the second half, Colin played a nice corner that looked like it might drop far post in vain until Cormic swooped in and volleyed outside of the foot for the finish. Several minutes later Cormic soloed from the 18 and finished upper 90's.  Minutes after that Nabil played another well placed diagonal ball to Avery who beat the Monomoy keeper 1 v 1. Ben Garside, Tim Palheiro, Nolan Ellard, Parker Cameron, and Sunny Yang were the Shark killers in the back. Matt Cahill and Bobby Zhou recorded the shut out.  I truly enjoyed the company of these fine young men this season. I look forward to working with them again in the future. Stay tuned for information about Oceana, December indoor at Willy's, and Keene at the end of July. - Coach

Warriors Lose: 1 - 1
It was a physical and a mental battle on a small field in not-so-friendly territory, but Warriors acquitted themselves very well. After playing compact and disciplined for three quarters of the game, and giving up just 1 goal thanks to the hard work of the back line (Sunny, Ryan, Daiver, and Justin) and a few critical saves by keeper Errnie Largey, Warrior changed formation and went on the attack. Several chances were created, but it wasn't until the last several minutes of the game when Avery Santoro won a free kick 15 yards outside the box that danger loomed large for the New Bedford squad. Cormic Parker played a perfectly curled ball to the six yard line near back post where Avery volleyed it into the back of the net. Warrior JV remain undefeated against NB for the third year in a row!

Warriors Win: 3 - 1
Warriors looked a little out of rhythm in the first part of the game, until Avery Santoro broke loose behind the Red Raider defenders to get a off a shot on goal. The first shot was rebuffed but Avery followed and finished the rebound. Ten minutes later Barnstable did the same thing to us and we went into half with an even score. Curtis Moore teed up a nice corner early in the second half which bounced around in the box until it found the waiting head of Alex Drown who calmly buried it in the back of the net. Later Alex teamed up with his brother Ansel to complete the Warrior scoring. Alex was the server on this occasion and Ansel swooped in with the header to "Drown" out the opposition. Sunny Yang and Ryan Pisch were very strong in the back four and James Sandison and Matt Bilancieri added productive minutes off the bench.

Curtis Moore contributed a brace but so much more (Moore?) to the warrior victory. He trolled the front line for opportunities to threaten, but he also played brilliant short balls to teammates in the attacking third. In the end it was a free kick of which Ronaldo would have been proud that put the warriors ahead 1-0. The ball sailed over the wall and ducked just under the crossbar.  Curtis M. struck again before half  to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. In the second halph, Avery Santoro used his soccer brain to follow a PK set up for him by Alex DrownThe warriors can't be beattan twice. Bellatores!

Warriors Win: 3 - 1
The warriors showed superior resilience in their turnabout victory over B-R on Monday. Having lost a close one to the same team on Saturday, warriors came in with a plan and executed very well. Our defense had seen the script before with the direct play of B-R over the top, so despite the lost of critical center back Daiver Perez, the remainder of the defensive squad Ryan Pisch, Nolan Ellard, Justin King, and Sunny Yang worked well together to protect GK Ernie Largey from the B-R attack.  And when they got through anyhow, Ernie made all the right saves at the right time.  For our attack, Avery Santoro got back on the horse by drawing a foul in the box and burying the PK in the lower left corner of the net.  After B-R equalized in the second half, Curtis Moore teed up another perfect corner kick.  This resulted in a box scramble which was authoritatively finish by none other than Nabil Kurtoglu who picked the perfect time to score his first goal for the season!  Alex Drown beat the two center backs in the box and finished side netting for the insurance goal. Great team effort !

Warriors Lose: 0 - 1
The first 5 minutes of the game were our best. We starting swing the ball from touch line to touch line and spreading the B-R defense thin.  Afterwards, although our defense of Justin King, Ryan Pisch, Daiver Perez, Nolan Ellard, Sunny Yang, Ben Garside, GK Ernie Largey, Tim Palheiro, and Bobby Zhou played brilliantly, the warriors could not generate enough ideas on attack to break down the B-R defense.  To be sure, we had our chances and we put several balls on frame, but none dangerous enough to threaten to change the dynamic of the game. James Sandison, Matt Bilancieri, and John Pontius were very strong coming off the bench.  Chance to get even on Monday.

Warriors Win: 2 - 1
Well the Cardiac Kids did it again! They snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and evened the score with a physical and talented Sandwich JV squad.  Warriors played counter attack the first half and had some success when the ball was played quickly to the flags. After Sandwich scored ten minutes into the second half, the warriors went to work and created several chances.  One of those found Cormic Parker 1v1 with the Sandwich keeper and Cormic cooly played the ball up and over for the tying goal.  Parker Cameron had his own 1v1 moment after beating the center back only to have the goal called back because a bizarre off sides call.  One missed penalty later, Colin Terrio got busy in the box to disrupt an easy keeper pickup and left the ball for the hungry foot of Alex Drown for the go ahead goal.  The game would have ended in a tie, however, if not for the very brave goal tending of Ernie Largey who came up with several saves one of which, in the first half, would have been a certain goal if he had not come off his line and steal the ball off the feet of the Sandwich attacker.

Altough it was one in the win column, this contest qualified as one of the least interesting of the season. Warriors seemed sluggish and disconnected. Poor passing and limited runs off the ball kept the DY squad in the game for too long. Alex Drown scored in the first half. Curtis Moore netted one of three attempts in the second half. Robby Wright hammered home a deflection off the head of outside winger Tesfu McMillan for the third goal.

Warriors started early with another Curtis (I want some) Moore solo finish to side netting at the 6 minute mark.  14 minutes later Ansel Drown (the opposition) fed Curtis another through ball to make it 2-0.  Ansel added his own solo shot which ricocheted off two posts before adding the third Warrior goal. Second half, Falmouth tried to pack it in and play the counter attack.  Warriors had some difficulty cracking the code but near the end of second half midfielder Cormic Parker wheeled, dealed, and skinned the Falmouth defender near the flag whereupon he sent the perfect cross to the waiting head of Jake Pearl who finshed in style. Daiver Perez got the job done at center back for both halves. Ernie Largey and Matt Cahill earned the shutout.

Warriors Win: 2 - 1
It was another spectacular finish from the heartbreak kids yesterday as the Warriors showed patience, poise, and purpose in orchestrating the defeat of a more talented Marshfield.  Matt Cahill played big in the first half, making several key saves and controlling the pace of play in the back.  Outside backs Sunny Yang and Justin King defused several Marshfield attacks and restarted our own.  Daiver Perez and Ryan Pisch had to be perfect, and they were.  Kudos to Ms. Terrio for ferrying our second half keeper, Ernie Largie, from the varsity field.  Ernie came up with two very difficult saves to keep us in the game.  Despite our best efforts, however, the Rams stung us with a goal with only 8 minutes of game time and six minutes of daylight left. Far from defeated, however, Warriors changed formation, regrouped and went on the attack.  Colin Terrio played a perfect through ball to Curtis Moore who went one v one with the keeper and buried it in the side netting.  Not content with a tie, and in the darkening field, Alex Drown played a perfectly weighted ball to the far left corner. Jake Pearl raced onto the ball and one-timed it across the face where Curis Moore slide-tackled it home, and the Warrior bench went wild.  Best victory of the year!

Warriors Lose: 1 - 2
Warriors got off to their best start against a competitive team. Just inside of 9 minutes Avery Santoro fired a shot inside the 18 which bounced off the Sandwich keeper and to the waiting feet of Jake Pearl who put the Warriors ahead 1-0 for the first half.  Sandwich had speed up top and the Blue Knight midfielders were playing many direct balls in the center trying to spring a forward loose, which they eventually did 10 minutes into the second half tying the score. Ten minutes after that another direct ball was played early to the Sandwich forward line and again resulted in a Sandwich score. Despite some heroic midfield play by Cormack Parker and defensive work by Daiver Perez, the warriors couldn't put the ball in net for the rest of the game.

While we didn't quite meet our target of scoring in the first 5 minutes, Alex Drown got us close by finishing a box scramble in the ninth minute of play.  Nine minutes later his brother Ansel crossed the ball into the box where apparently the threat of James Sandison breathing down his neck caused the keeper to mishandle and lose the ball into the goal.  In the 30th minute Curtis Moore drove the ball behind the DY defenders and finished off a nice virtuoso goal with a right foot far post shot to side netting. Three minutes into the second half James Sandison found the waiting foot of Ansel Drown for a six yard finish. Fifteen minutes later Robby Wright sacrificed a foot (he got kicked in the process) to get off a shot which dived under the crossbar and over the head of the DY keeper.  With 10 minutes left in the game coach put in a "goals on headers only" restriction.  Sure enough Ryan Pisch weaved and carved himself a little space in the DY corner and served up a perfect cross to the waiting head of Curtis Moore for a spectacular header finish.

JV Warriors couldn't break the curse of the Vineyard trip this year.  Slow start and failure to connect passes kept us from posing an early threat, but 15 minutes into the contest we found feet and also stretched their defense for the first time. Avery Santoro found a way around the MV center backs and into the back of the net in the 20th to put the Warriors up 1-0 which lasted through the half. Second half saw some chances created by well placed switches by Ryan Pisch and bigger balls hit by our outside backs, Justin King and Colin Terrio.  MV threatened on a couple of counters and on one roughed up our keeper and gained control of the ball in a box scramble and evened the game. Warriors put the ball on frame several times in the second half but were unable to score. A free kick in the last minute of play floated over the head of our keeper to complete the curse.

Warriors Win: 2 - 1
Best team effort of the season, by far.  Warriors played a faster, more talented New Bedford team but with collective discipline, team communication, and individual brilliance, prevailed.  Warriors were on the back foot the first 15 minutes of the game, but learned fast that only balls played quickly though the midfield were going to have a chance of success. Despite the steep learning curve, Warriors lost possession off of a goal kick and had the ball served against them into the box for a nice NB finish which put the home team in the hole 0-1 at the half.   Warriors regrouped at half, changed formation and philosophy, and came out second half hungry to change the dynamic. They did. After closing off the midfield to NB, warriors began to spray the sidelines and attacking third with dangerous balls, one of which Avery Santoro drove forward in clinical fashion toward goal and finished in the side netting to tie the score. Eight minutes later, a rebound off a corner allowed Curtis Moore to put the ball far post to the waiting head of Jake Pearl who buried the winning goal in the back of the net.   There are many players who share credit for the victory. I will mention the sophomore play downs Ryan Pisch, Daiver Perez, and Justin King as the four defenders without whom today's result would not have been possible. Cormack Parker played with inspiration and resoIve to retake control of the midfield and create the opportunities that would eventually win the game. I  will also mention four players who stepped up to help out the varsity ball control situation out of their desire to put team before self: Tim Palhiero, James Sandison, Ben Garside, and Matt Cahill.  Also want to mention Nabil Kurtoglu as Man off the Bench today.  Nabil had a terrible practice Monday and rebounded to do everything right in terms of hustle, courage, and aggressive play today.

Warriors Win: 2 - 0
Warriors got off to a great start and took the game to the Red Raiders.  We were excited to be on the turf but unused to being able to play the ball so wide.  As a result, some of our balls were too direct and we did not take advantage of the opportunity to switch fields as often as we should have. Holding midfielder Cormack Parker turned that part of our game around in the second half by looking up before he received the ball and driving the ball wide for our outside midfielders.  Tesfu Kerse-McMillin served up a great cross from the left side which Avery Santoro buried in the back of the net with a header for our first score.  Avery earned the second half of his brace with a solo drive to beat the Barnstable inside back and then carefully placed the ball in the far post side netting from the 12.  Our Man Off The Bench Award goes to Colin Terrio who did everything right.  Defensively, he tracked the ball well, stayed connected to the midfielders, and won important 50/50 balls.  As a midfielder he created chances by playing one twos with other midfielders and made great runs to and crosses from the corners.

Warriors Win: 2 - 1
Boys showed exceptional team effort if not always teamwork in a successful first game of the season. Warriors had most of the ball the entire game but occasionally lost control of the middle of the park because we played too high or too low. We had over ten chances in the first half that weren't finished because of poor shot selection, impatience, or failure to play the ball across the face of the goal.  All of this changed in the first five minutes of the second half, and as a result so did the score. Avery Santoro finished a nice ball laid off from Curtis Moore from the 18 and the Warriors were flying high. Ten minutes later we went back in the doldrums and conceded too many balls in the midfield. Vineyard took advantage of some missed clearances and poor communication and equalized in the 30th minute.  Team decided as a group that a tie was as good as a loss and put their Warrior faces on and put the Vineyard on the back foot. Alex Drown pushed the ball into the right corner for a perfect cross that ended up at the hungry feet of Avery Santoro for the brace. Osdaiver Perez was critical as an inside back. Ryan Pish and Justin King did all the right things as outside defenders to give the team the chances they had. Parker Cameron gets the Man Off the Bench award for the day.  Practice tomorrow and Friday at the regular time.
